Cross-Platform App
Development Services

Cross-platform app development means building one app for iOS and Android from a single codebase, usually with React Native or Flutter. Tapptitude is a cross-platform app development company: we design, build and maintain apps for startups and companies that need both app stores covered without paying for two separate native teams.

One codebase.
Two app stores.

We've built 150+ web and mobile products over the past 12+ years. On every cross-platform project we pick React Native or Flutter for what your product needs, write native code where a feature calls for it, and stay with you after launch to maintain and grow the app.

When to choose cross-platform

You need iOS and Android at launch

One team ships both apps from the same code, so features, fixes and releases land on both stores at the same time instead of drifting apart.

Your budget covers one team, not two

Screens, business logic and API code are written once. Native code is added only where a feature needs it, such as payments, Bluetooth or background tasks.

Your web team already works in React

React Native uses TypeScript and the same patterns as React, so your web developers can read, review and contribute to the mobile code.

Your app is content, commerce or workflows

Feeds, bookings, payments, chat, maps, subscriptions and dashboards are well covered by React Native and Flutter, and make up most of the apps we build.

You want to validate the idea fast

A first version can reach both stores in about 8 weeks, so you learn what real users do before committing to a bigger roadmap or to two native apps.

When to choose native

Your app runs on 3D, AR or real-time graphics

Games, AR and complex real-time rendering get the most out of Swift and Kotlin with direct access to the GPU and platform frameworks.

You need new platform features on day one

If the product depends on the newest OS features (widgets, Apple Watch, CarPlay, Android Auto) from the day Apple or Google releases them, native code avoids waiting for framework support.

Your native apps already work well

If mature iOS and Android apps and the teams behind them already deliver, a rewrite costs more than it saves. We extend and maintain the native apps instead.

Still weighing native against cross-platform?

New cross-platform app

From the first workshop to both app stores. Product definition workshops come first, then UI design and an interactive prototype; with the screens agreed we write the detailed scope and the final estimate. Development runs in two-week sprints with QA, a demo and a build you can install after each sprint, through to the App Store and Google Play release.

Migration from native

Move a native iOS and Android pair to React Native or Flutter without stopping releases. We audit both apps first, decide what moves and in which order, and migrate screen by screen, keeping native modules where they still make sense, so users keep getting updates while the two codebases become one.

Depends on the app

Take over an existing app

Your agency or developer left and the React Native or Flutter app still needs releases. We start with a one-week audit of the code, dependencies and build setup, fix what blocks the next release, and then take over maintenance or new development, whichever the product needs.

Cross-platform code audit

An independent review of your React Native or Flutter app: architecture, performance, security, dependencies, tests and CI/CD. You get a prioritized list of fixes, so you know what slows the app or the team down and what to do first.

AI prototype to production app

You built a prototype with an AI app builder and people want to use it. We turn it into a production app: we keep what works, rebuild what will not scale, add a secure backend, user accounts and payments, and release it to both stores with maintenance after launch.

AI features in your app

Add an AI assistant, recommendations, search or document processing to an existing cross-platform app. We agree the goal and how it will be measured first, then build and ship the feature. For a UK digital-health startup we built a Flutter app with a conversational AI care agent and native sensor modules.

React Native vs Flutter

The two leading frameworks for cross-platform development both let one team ship to iOS and Android from one codebase. They differ in language, in how the UI is drawn and in the team you need.

How we build
cross-platform apps

1. Product definition workshops

chevron

Workshops with your team that produce a Lean Canvas, the target audience, user personas, user flows and a high-level MVP scope.

2. UI design, prototype and final estimate

chevron

UI designs with your brand and an interactive prototype that follows iOS and Android conventions. With the screens agreed, we write the detailed scope, the final estimate and the timeline.

3. Development in two-week sprints

chevron

A demo at the end of every sprint and a build you can install and test on your phone. Your feedback goes into the next sprint.

4. Release on both stores

chevron

Store listings, review guidelines, analytics and crash reporting set up, then a coordinated App Store and Google Play release.

5. Maintenance and growth

chevron

OS updates, framework upgrades and new features after launch, on a monthly plan or on demand.

Cross-platform app development FAQs

  • Cross-platform app development services at Tapptitude start from $25,000 for an MVP on iOS and Android, including design, backend and the release in both app stores. If you already have the designs and a backend or API, the mobile apps alone start from $15,000. Larger products cost more; we give a firm estimate after a short product definition phase. Two prices are fixed up front: a cross-platform code audit from $1,000 (one week) and maintenance from $900 per month.

  • A focused cross-platform MVP takes about 8 weeks: four two-week sprints, each ending with a demo and a build you can install on your phone. For example, we took a UK digital-health startup from concept to a tested Flutter MVP in 8 weeks. Larger products take longer, and we confirm the timeline after product definition, together with the scope and the final estimate.

  • For most apps, yes: users can't tell a well-built cross-platform app from a native one. React Native renders native components, and Flutter compiles to native code with its own rendering engine. Native is still the better choice for heavy 3D, AR or apps that depend on the newest OS features on day one. Where a feature needs native code, we write it as a native module inside the cross-platform app.

  • Choose React Native if your team already works with React and TypeScript, or if you want fast over-the-air updates. Choose Flutter for highly custom, brand-heavy UI and animations. Both cover iOS and Android well, and we build with both, so the recommendation follows your product and your team. See the comparison above and our Flutter vs React Native guide.

  • Yes, we migrate native iOS and Android apps to React Native or Flutter. We start with an audit of the native apps, then usually migrate screen by screen, so the app keeps shipping to the stores while it moves. Native code stays where it is the better tool, for example for payments or background tasks. The audit also gives you the migration plan and an estimate before any code moves.

  • A well-built cross-platform app is not noticeably slower than a native one. Slowness usually comes from fixable causes: unnecessary re-renders, heavy traffic between JavaScript and native code in React Native, dropped frames in Flutter, or oversized images. Our cross-platform code audit, from $1,000 in one week, measures these and lists the fixes in priority order.

  • Yes, taking over an app another team built is one of the most common ways clients start with us. We run a one-week audit, take over the repositories, the build pipeline and the store accounts, then continue with maintenance from $900 per month or with new development. The audit report tells you what state the code is in before you commit to anything else.

  • We are a cross-platform app development company, which is what most people mean by hybrid app development today: one codebase and real native apps for iOS and Android, built with React Native or Flutter. In the strict sense, a hybrid app is a web app running inside a native shell, as with Ionic or Cordova. We don't build those; if you have one, we can migrate it to React Native or Flutter.
